Surrey and Sussex residents encouraged to plan ahead for May Bank Holidays

April 21, 2021

The early May bank holiday is the next upcoming public holiday for people in Sussex and Surrey.

It falls on Monday 3 May this year.

Meanwhile, the Spring bank holiday is on Monday 31 May – only a few weeks later.

Residents across Sussex and Surrey are advised to check their medicines before the two May bank holidays to avoid running out,  as many pharmacies will be closed and others operating different hours to usual on the Monday.

Pharmacists and their teams are urging patients and visitors to do three things to prepare for the holiday weekends:

  • Order repeat prescriptions in advance if you are going to run out over the long weekend,
  • Check pharmacy opening hours before you set out
  • Remember your hands, face, space when you enter the premises

With some overnight stays requiring long-distance travel now permitted, pharmacists are also reminding people not to forget to take their medicines with them if they are going away.

Anyone who has run out of prescription medicines, needs urgent medical help, or needs advice for non-life-threatening conditions, should visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111.

Should day-time temperatures rise and the sun shine brightly, pharmacies that are open will also be providing other holiday healthcare such as sun protection, sunburn and hay fever relief and means to treat other common minor illnesses as required.

Stay safe and have a lovely weekend
