More Sussex and Surrey pharmacies invited to apply to join C-19 vaccination effort, but don’t miss the application deadline says Julia Powell, new CEO

February 24, 2021

Last week (16 February) we heard that NHS England and NHS Improvement have identified where there is a need for more provision of pharmacy Local Vaccination Service sites and have re-opened the designation process to all pharmacy contractors who may be able to provide the service.

Applications should be submitted before Sunday 28 February. Only successful applications will be responded to before 12 March 2021.

The opportunity comes under the same terms as the current Local Enhanced Service (LES) agreement, with contractors needing to be able to provide at least 1000 vaccines per week.

Expressions of interest are also invited from contractors who could provide 400 vaccines per week. These sites may be considered where a site offering 1000 vaccines per week is unlikely to be viable, or where an additional site would offer significant benefits for specific patient cohorts.

Alongside the Letter NHE&I released a list of areas it is keen to get better coverage across – including at least nine postcodes in Surrey and five postcodes in Sussex.

Julia Powell joined CPSS as CEO on 22 February 2021

Commenting Julia Powell, chief executive officer at Community Pharmacy Surrey and Sussex said:

“We’re delighted that the NHS have recognised the value of community pharmacy no matter the size of contribution to the vaccination programme.

“Delivering 1000 vaccines per week was a big ask for any of our existing premises and two of our new pharmacy-led centres have needed to move to larger community premises to be able to take part in the programme. Reducing the minimum delivery number from 1000 to 400 will allow more pharmacies to take part and in turn, benefit many more small communities by offering easily accessible and safe provision.”
