Local Covid-19 testing for pharmacy staff and household members

NHS testing facilities across Surrey and Sussex have now opened their doors to pharmacy teams and the people they live with.
Access to the sites will help pharmacy staff who are isolating at home return to work to support our essential services and care of patients.
Colleagues working in local GP practices and the Ambulance Service and Police are able to use these facilities too, which must be booked in advance.
- Details were sent to all 533 contractors across Surrey and Sussex to pharmacy NHS shared email accounts on Friday 17 April 2020 between 3pm and 4.30pm
- The contents of the email, sent from firstname.lastname@example.org, set out the testing criteria, process and strict booking instructions.
- The guidance is for pharmacy teams only and is not be published or shared outside immediate staff teams
Contractors who have not seen the email referred to at 1, above, are urged to check their email archive and/or junk folders before contacting the LPC
After finalising the arrangements of local testing James Wood, CEO, said: “I am delighted that these arrangements to test pharmacy staff and their families are now in place.
“As a result we can now ensure staff who are off unsure about their or their families symptoms can be tested to help them return to work as quickly as possible to support our vital work in our communities.”

National testing programme
Community pharmacy staff in Surrey and Sussex can also access free testing for COVID-19, via the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) national testing service. An online portal developed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is being used to take bookings for tests at one of the DHSCs national test centres.
This online portal is a temporary facility and it will be replaced by a permanent digital booking system; updated details of how to book a test will be provided when the new system goes live.
This service is in addition to testing organised at a locally by the NHS (see above). Eligibility criteria and details of how to access the national scheme are on PSNC website. Read more
