Senior councillor writes thank you letter to community pharmacy

June 11, 2020

The chairman of Chairman, Health and Adult Social Care Select Committee has written to all West Sussex community pharmacy teams, thanking them for all their hard work during the pandemic.

Cllr Bryan Turner, member for Broadwater Division wrote:

“On behalf of West Sussex County Council, I am writing to thank you and your support staff for the outstanding work you have done to support our communities in these unprecedented times.

“I am acutely aware of the pressure that Pharmacists and their support staff have been under.

“While access to other primary care services has been severely restricted, you have kept your pharmacies open and maintained a face-to-face health service for your patients”.

He went on to say: “I recognise that this has not been easy, when you have been dealing with a hugely increased dispensing volume together with more demand on your other services.

“I am also very aware of the sacrifices you made to keep pharmacy open on the Easter and VE day public holidays, when you and your staff would have been in need of a well-earned rest”.

Mark Donaghy, chair West Sussex LPC

Mark Donaghy, Chair of West Sussex Local Pharmaceutical Committee responded:

“On behalf of the LPC I would like to thank Cllr Bryan Turner for his generous words to West Sussex pharmacy teams.

“It is pleasing to gain the recognition and support of the County Council for all that everyone working in local pharmacies has done to keep their doors open to help patients throughout the pandemic. Many community pharmacists and their colleagues have gone above-and-beyond to help their local population in the last few months.

“The response to Covid-19 from community pharmacy teams has been phenomenal and has put us at the very heart of primary care and public health. Our LPC has excellent relationships with Public Health and other teams at the County Council and we hope these will continue to flourish for the benefit of the people of West Sussex”.
